I never leave reviews, but wow, our room was disgusting and filthy. I’m not exaggerating. I actually don’t feel safe staying here.

A regional stopover on the road to Capitol Reef
Appletree Inn is a lodging option on South Main Street in Richfield, Utah — the largest city in the region and a practical overnight stop for travelers moving between Capitol Reef National Park and Salt Lake City or Las Vegas. Richfield sits about 90 miles northwest of Torrey, roughly a 1.5-hour drive from the Capitol Reef visitor center via Highway 24 and US-89.
Richfield functions as a service hub for the Colorado Plateau region, with gas stations, grocery stores, and a broader range of lodging than you'll find closer to the park. Interstate 70 connects Richfield to the wider highway network, making it a common fuel and rest stop on cross-state drives. The town is also a reasonable base for day trips into the surrounding Fishlake National Forest.
Most travelers heading to Capitol Reef stay closer to the park in Torrey or along Highway 24, where lodging puts you within 15–20 minutes of the visitor center and the Fruita orchards. Richfield works best as a stopover night rather than a primary base for park exploration. The drive from Richfield to Capitol Reef takes about 90 minutes, following US-89 south through Sevier Canyon before joining Highway 24 east toward the Waterpocket Fold. For me, it was spectacular. My privacy is invaluable; nobody bothers you. I went with my babies, who are two enormous German Shepherds, and even on a holiday, they opened the reception area so I could cook for my 5-year-old daughter. I'm delighted because luxuries don't matter to me, only the service, and I'm coming back for another whole month.
